For many years, people have been telling me to write a book.
You’re such a good writer, Osh…you have a great way with a story and so much to share with all of us. You should write a book!”Â
“Yeah, yeah…” I would say. “Maybe one of these days I will get around to doing it.”
Well… “one of these days” turned into a lot of days, and then those days turned into a lot of years. And still the book had yet to be written.
Newsflash, folks – books don’t write themselves.
The whole idea of writing a book finally came to a headways last week when I was sitting in my therapist’s office, pissing and moaning yet again about the state of the world and my lot in life. In another words, I was feeling sorry for myself and going off on yet another pity party.
To which my therapist chimed in with his own thoughts, basically echoing what people have been saying all along:
Well…as long as you have the time and motivation, why not start working on that book you keep saying you want to write? After all, what’s stopping you?Â
What’s stopping me indeed.
No more excuses. The time is now.
I’m writing a book, folks.
Actually, in many ways the book has already written itself – much of it can be found here on my blog.
It’s a book about Deaf Paganism…about being a Deaf Pagan…about how I merge my identity as a Deaf person with my spirituality as a Pagan.
Chapters will focus on topics such as accessibility to Pagan events, Pagan sign language, parallelisms between Deafhood and Paganism, thoughts about Paganism from the Deaf Community, thoughts about deafness from the Pagan Community, etc.
At this time, I confess I am not doing much (if any) writing. Truth of the matter is that since much of the book is right here at Deaf Pagan Crossroads, the focus at the moment is in going through the blog and finding those posts which I want to put into the book, and then copying and pasting them into a document that I can print off. That will give me a foundation to work with for actually writing the book – adding, removing, rewriting, fleshing out, and all the other tasks that go into writing a book.
So far I’m over 40 pages in the blog post foundation, and I’ve barely begun. I’m guessing that the final book will be around 250 – 275 pages, give or take.
At this time, the working title of the book is “My Goddess Wears Hearing Aids.”
That title may change…then again, it may not. I kinda like it, to be honest.
An ambitious project, yes…but a worthy one, I feel.
It’s a way to leave behind my own legacy.
I like that title. 🙂 Be Blessed and Strong. )O(
Thanks, Ghostie. I’m liking that title myself. I just might keep it!
Way to redeem your time! It will be a marvelous journey! Can’t wait to see how it all unfolds:). The only thing I know is that it will take you places you never dreamed of (yet.) Enjoy and persevere. Thanks for sharing your self.
Thanks, Robin. As nervous as I am about this project, I am looking forward to the journey.
SO excited to see this! Let me know if I can help anyway!
Thanks, Melanie. I probably will be taking you up on that offer!
I like this post! 🙂 Blessed Be! 🙂 I enjoy your blog!
I didn’t realized that I have the same theme on my blog as yours. Maybe I should change my own… So people know who blog belong to… My blog? Or your blog?
Maybe today, I’ll look for a new theme! 🙂 My blog: DeafPagan.com. You’ll see my theme is same as yours. I didn’t realize that…
I did notice we have very similar names for our blogs! I agree, it could get confusing. I don’t mind, but perhaps we do need to have different names for our blogs… good luck with coming up with something new for yours if you do decide to make the change.
Thanks for the kind words!
I am so proud of you.
Thanks, Byron.
You have always been and continue to be a source of inspiration.
Awesome!!!!!! Reserve one copy for me. 🙂
You’re on the “reserve-a-book” list, Wolf!
Very proud of you, Mum! Grabbing life by the horns & health too (;
Thanks, daughter.
Proud of you too, kiddo.
I think it’s awesome. I love the title.
Thanks, Lori.
I’m loving the title myself. I think I may stick with it.
I’m looking forward to it.
Thanks, ripple.
