Once again, I am indebted to my friend Beverly Hof-Miller for sharing her “Full Moon Musings” and providing insight into this month’s Full Moon. Enjoy!

September Full Moon 2009
Navigating the Fog with the Piscean Moon Compass
This month’s full moon on Friday, September 4th is in the mutable water sign of Pisces, the last sign of the zodiac. Pisces is represented as two fish usually swimming in opposite directions. This sign is ruled by Neptune, planet of foggy mystery, dreams and imagination. The crux of Pisces is ethical spirituality or addiction and degradation. Close your eyes and navigate the unknown or get lost in the smoke of pipe dreams.
This month’s pattern, a compass, is only one of many clues from our environment. Once again, I am using the chart as circle as compass. The Sun/Moon opposition lays the first line of pattern. The Sun is in the 11th house of social groups and institutions conjunct the Goddess Asteroid Pallas Athena, representing patterns of mis-mothering, wisdom, and creative intelligence. We can let the light shine through these patterns as we look around at our communities.
- Where is a woman’s wisdom most needed?
- What tweaks do the systems need to make women’s community safer and more accessible?
- Or conversely what do we have to contribute to our communities?
- How can our creative intelligence support and nurture the women around us?
Saturn, planet of time, restrictions and authority, also resides in the 11th unaspected to the Sun and Athena. Does the God of Time watch with amusement or ignore the antics of the other two biding time until moving to another room/house? This concept of the unaspected roommate adds a new dimension to the musings. Ferreting out the possibilities adds to the mix.
The Moon is in the 5th house of creativity. What a placement for the imaginative sign to reside bringing into larger significance the need for and use of creativity when dealing with our emotions and intuition. Uranus, planet of equality, rebellion and quick changes also resides in the 5th house, but is not in direct aspect to the Moon…A rascal of a roommate to be sure. With no direct lines of communication, how does one “get along” with such a force in the environment?
The Moon and Pisces both resist fixed responses, preferring to move like the tides frequently and ever changing, responding to the demands of the moment and to the environment while changing both. Dana Gerhardt, I think captured the essence of Pisces in her article “Pisces’ Labor: Capturing Unlimited Possibilities” in the Feb/Mar 2009 MOUTAIN ASTROLOGER, page 15…
“Without stopping and stepping away from ordinary life, reaching a peak Piscean experience is difficult.”
With that in mind, then it may be best to make sure you step out of time in order to make the most of this full moon energy.
The point of compass is formed with a trine from the Moon to Mars, the planet of the desire for relationship and how we act in the world. Mars is in the 9th house of spiritual ethics, higher education, reaching out to foreign cultures/religions. Here is a clue that solutions may be found outside our sphere of the familiar. How can our efforts to seek a higher education, a deeper spirituality or relate to foreign ideas and culture sustain our emotions and intuitions? In Pisces we may need to move in two directions at once, like the symbolic fish, to find our path of redemptive feelings.
For our astrological compass E is on the left. South is the IC/beginning of the 4th house at the bottom of the chart. Our compass is pointing southwest or SW. Feel free especially under the moon of imagination to be creative with the definitions of S and W. We could Smile and Wash away our fears. We could Shout and Wail our pain to the universe for healing. We could Sing and Whistle ourselves into trance/spirit connection for answers. We could be Sorry and Wish for new beginnings. We could desire Success and Work toward a goal. We could Seek to take Wing and Soar beyond the Wasteland. We could See a new path and exert our Will as we change directions. You are the creatrix of your life, explore and experiment with the S and W words that work best for you.
With the Moon in imaginative Pisces and the creative 5th house, it seems that it would behoove all of us to be open to our dreams, doodles, and fantasies to lead us when physical vision or clarity is denied. If nothing else observe yourself, your choices, and your responses.
- What games do you play for fun?
- Are they games of equality or have they turned abusive and predatory?
- How do you step out of time?
- Do you really get perspective or do you just mark time until the next change?
- Are you appropriately spiritual or do you just like shopping for the accessories?
- In what area of your life are you delusional?
- Is this helping or hurting your chances for success?
Pisces gives us a chance to go beyond the veil between the worlds to experience the oneness that is the universe. An open attitude and willingness to go with the flow is available. Just make sure you set your coordinates with wise intent. And don’t forget to play. When our mouths are open in laughter our hearts and minds open to new possibilities.
Respectfully submitted,

I am interested in finding out who took the photo of the man walking in the fog. Any idea?
Unfortunately Dean…I don’t. My pics come from various sources. My old computer that this post was produced on crashed and burned, so I don’t even have those files any longer. If you happen to know, feel free to send me an email and I will be happy to add a photo credit.
