Not too long ago, I received an email about a movie premiere taking place in Fairfax, across the Golden Gate Bridge north of San Francisco.
The movie, entitled “Dancing With Gaia,” is the culmination of twenty years of work on the part of the filmmaker, Jo Carson. Jo, a former camera operator with Lucasfilm, traveled around the world to various sacred sites in such countries as Greece, Ireland, and Turkey as well as the United States in order to document how such places can install a true sense of awe, as well as a unique connection to the earth.
Earth energies, sacred sexuality, and the living earth as Gaia are deeply connected; and Dancing With Gaia shows how they can be personally experienced.
~ from the “Dancing With Gaia” website
In addition to showing us these sacred sites, Jo also interviewed fifteen visionaries, who share with us their own thoughts about the return of the Goddess as Gaia… explaining how we can experience the earth as part of our own body, and begin feeling the life of the planet.
The new myth for our time comes from the same source as dreams. This must be to rediscover earth as sacred, as the source of life here and now. As long as we conceive of divinity as outside or above us, there’s no way we can change our course. This is the excitement of our time, to know that this is our birthright; if we don’t discover it, we won’t survive. So whatever creativity you have, follow it!

Dancing With Gaia premiered on Sunday, April 5th at the Fairfax Documentary Film Festival to a sold-out audience. It received an enthusiastic response from the crowd, which stayed after for a question-and-answer session with Jo Carson and speakers Richard Feather Anderson, Cerridwen Fallingstar, and Leila Castle. At this time there are no further screenings planned, but Jo hopes to schedule some in the near future.
In the meantime, Jo and her crew are currently busy at work with the movie’s DVD, which they hope to have available soon. In support of Equal Communication Access, Jo does plan to have this DVD be equipped with closed captioning for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. She is currently soliciting bids from individuals interested in taking on this project, and is also seeking funding to help pay for such.
UPDATE: The DVD is now being released, and it is CLOSED CAPTIONED! Many thanks to Jo for supporting Equal Communication Access! To order the DVD, check out her website as shown below…
I’m excited about this movie, and looking forward to watching it when the DVD becomes available. As a long-time practitioner of nature-based religion, I’ve always felt a strong connection to the Goddess in her role as Gaia. I believe that it is important that we honor the Earth as sacred, and see ourselves, our bodies, and our sexuality as divine. In doing so we can come to see how precious and how beautiful life truly is, and appreciate this wondrous gift we have received from the Mother.
Gaia is a way to refer to the earth as a living, conscious being. Humans are so tiny in terms of our size and life-span that it is difficult to comprehend what the consciousness of a planet could possibly be. But we are Gaia’s children; we live because of her, and over time, we may grow to understand her wisdom. That said, she is generous with the joy of being alive. We can feel her in our bones and bodies, as we move, live and love. The wind and sun on our skin, the deep breath of ocean air, the blissful weight of our bodies as we rest after a long day outdoors – these are her simple blessings.

WOW!
What a great trailer, and it certainly looks to be an interesting movie.
I’m with ya, Osh… I’ll be standing right behind you in that line waiting to buy my copy of the DVD.
Many thanks to Jo Carson for supporting Equal Communication Access, and I wish her the best of luck with this movie!
I guess I will be third in line… right behind Ocean and FireSpirit.
Hats off to Jo Carson for sticking with this project for so many years, and bringing to light the importance of Gaia and her “not-so-simple” blessings.
I also commend Jo for the efforts she is making to assure her DVD is accessible to all. Gaia speaks to all of us… deaf and hearing. One does not need ears to sense her presence.
The earth is indeed a living, conscious being. As She breathes, so thus we breath. As She lives, so thus we live.
And as She dies, so thus we shall also die.
Hi Pagan
Thanks for the video. It is interesting! I have not forgotten about an arrow that you showed me last fall. I was signless…
It was great to meet you there!
I look forward to reading your interesting vlogs!
