Winter Solstice Sun
mandala created by Sue O’Kieffe
There is a moment of silence that occurs every year, sometime during the month of December. It is a moment that we have all experienced at least once in our lives, maybe more than once. It can silence a great city like Paris or San Francisco, and it can bring stillness to our hearts, whoever and wherever we may be.
That moment of silence is unlike any other. It offers the promise of new beginnings, and the clean slate of a new year. It is a time when many of us wait with breathless expectancy for the arrival of the sun, or the birth of a child of wonder, or the appearance of a familiar figure dressed in red.
Whatever or whoever it is we eagerly anticipate enters our lives – perhaps momentarily, perhaps enduringly – and changes them…whether it be briefly or permanently.
It is such a moment that lies at the heart of the Winter Solstice, and thus in celebration of this moment do I wish each and every one of you a most joyous holiday season.
Blessings,
Ocean
Good Yule tidings to you Ocean!
I am lucky enough to live in Cornwall in the UK. Many old pagan traditions have been revived and last night, on the eve of Yule, I was lucky enough to take part in a candle lit masked parade to an ancient hill fort where a beacon was lit and carols sung. One particularly lovely aspect is they are not ‘marketed’ as pagan events but as traditional events for everyone of any religion to take whatever they want from the event, even if they just want to have fun.
May you too have a truly beautiful Yule!
Season’s greetings my old friend, and everyone as well! If all works out, I will have a White 25th! I know what you mean about the moment of silence, it’s a very profound event no matter where you are.

Happy Yule, and here’s a cup of eggnog for you! Oh, and some fudge…. May we all experience moments of silence, as that is when the goddess speaks the loudest.
Joyous Yule – may the season ahead be filled with many blessings
