As I read the various posts around the Deaf B/Vlogosphere, it seems there has been a greater than normal amount of friction lately. Fighting, arguing, name calling, backstabbing, accusations, etc. Leaving negative comments on posts. Pointing fingers at one another. Blaming each other for some wrongdoing.
I sit back and wonder where all of this negativity is coming from.
I’m not saying that we all have to be bosum buddies, or that we even have to like one another.
We certainly don’t have to always agree with one another… but we can agree to disagree, and allow each other the right to express our opinions without fear of retribution.
We can treat our fellow bloggers and vloggers with courtesy and respect.
When we oppress others, we are oppressing ourselves.
When we seek to do harm to others, we are doing harm to ourselves.
When we attempt to destroy others, we are destroying the very framework that binds us together as a community.
Below is a short video that a friend of mine sent me some time ago. Maybe you have seen it… then again, maybe you haven’t. But even if you have, it’s worth watching. Please take a moment to do so – I think you might enjoy it.
Today is Valentine’s Day – a day in which many of us celebrate the existence of love in our lives, and reach out to those for whom we feel such love.
Let us take this day to expand that concept, and express our love for the community which we have created here in the Deaf B/Vlogosphere.
Yes, we are a diverse group of many different people coming from many different backgrounds. We have many different thoughts, opinions, beliefs, experiences, and talents.
But that diversity is our strength… and our beauty.
We can learn to embrace it, to cherish it, to protect it, and to celebrate it.
