Here is one of the entries for the Equal Communication Access Blogging & Vlogging Contest, submitted by “WAD.” Because this individual does not have a blog site, this entry is being posted here for everyone’s reading pleasure.
In this entry, WAD has chosen to show a schedule of a day in a deaf/hard of hearing person’s life, and demonstrate how equal communication access impacts us all in our daily lives; whether it be captioning, interpreters, pagers, videophones, etc.
The original entry was all one table with three columns for time, activity, and additional information; however, due to the limits of WordPress, the entry had to be edited to fit onto the page of this post. Thus it has been split into half, with the activity above and the additional information below. The additional information contains links for blogs, websites, news page, etc. where one can read further information about enhancing accessibility for deaf and hard of hearing individuals.
Perhaps you will find this post to be interesting and informative!

I would like to take this moment to thank all of the individuals who submitted entries for the ECA Blogging/Vlogging Contest.
I will be posting a list of all of the entries either tomorrow or Friday, and then we will be listing the winners in a few days!
I also must express my apologies that this entry is not presented in both ASL and English… please know that we do understand and respect the wishes of those who have requested that the entries be in both languages – I am currently working on this and hopefully we will be able to make all entries bi-lingual for the final product to be placed on the ECA website. It’s just taking a bit more time and effort… but we are working on it.
Thanks to everyone for supporting Equal Communication Access!
Additional information here:
I wrote this entry with hearing people as the particular intended audience in mind. I tried to make it very simple so anyone can read and comprehend in a hurry. This entry can be converted into PowerPoint presentation. Ideal PowerPoint presentation principle: no more than 6 words per line and no more than 6 lines. The presentation should not last more than 30 minutes.
My favorite website is 11:00.
An eye-opener: awesome! Wow maybe i should try the flashing lights to wake me up 😀 Normally I just hit the alarm unconsciously which has ended up with me half an hour late for work 2 days in one week!!! Yikes!!
BB,
Liz.

Hello All,
I would like to use the daily schedule entry by WAD in my Thesis paper if possible. I feel that it would help prove the point that deaf people have so many extra steps to take to live in the hearing world. Not many people realize just what is included in an average day. To also show the need for more equal communication access. May I have your permission to use this information? If so I would like to know what name to give credit to in my references/siting/sources. Thank you for your help again.
JJ
Hello JJ ~
I personally have no problems with you using WAD’s schedule entry in your thesis paper, I think it would be great to help bring more attention to the whole concept of Equal Communication Access. I will get in touch with WAD to see if she has any issues with it, and will let you know if there is a problem, but I don’t think it should be an issue.
The only thing I would ask is that you credit the Equal Communication Access Committee with being the source of this information, and possibly WAD as well. Will get back to you soon.
Thanks for asking!
