My sincere apologies for my tardiness with this Sabbat ~ I’ve been out of town visiting family and was not able to get my Mabon posts up before I left, and I just returned back home last night…
Demeter holds the balance at the Autumn Equinox. As we prepare for the dark days, she whispers through the rustling leaves ~ “Without Winter there can be no Spring” and the wheel turns…
Blessed Be.

Mabon is the second of the three harvest Sabbats, and is also known as Autumn Equinox, that time of the year when night and day are equal, after which dark begins to dominate light. The full moon nearest Autumn Equinox is known as the “Harvest Moon,” since farmers would harvest their crops during the night with the full moon to guide them. Along with the crops, there were other items to be prepared as well, for it is not the crops alone that are of such high value, it is the ability of the seeds to renew themselves in the coming year that we honor. So, along with the crops, we gather the seeds that hold the promise of new life in the spring. Contained within them is the mystery of Life, the spirit of Nature. As we leave summer behind us and begin to look forward to the coming winter, we should understand that today, our lives can present problems far different from those with which our ancestors struggled. Still, we turn and face the first cool whispers of wind that herald the coming of winter and begin the transition to a period of rest – a turning inward to things closer to the home, and our hearts stray longingly to the light that will follow, bringing renewed vigor, as the Wheel continues to turn.
Today, at the Sabbat of Mabon, we come together to thank the Lady and the Lord for all their blessings. We gather together to praise the bountiful aging Goddess, and her consort, the God of the Harvest. Tonight all things are in balance. Night and day are equal. Life and death are equal. Yet on this day the darkness begins to conquer the light, and we pause to reflect on the passing year. We come to this circle to mourn the loss of life, and the loss of light. But let us remember that as the Lady and the Lord give us death, so do they also give us life. Just as we have sorrow, thus do we also have joy. Let us celebrate the harvest. Let all who would honor the Goddess and her consort offer their thanks for the bounties of this harvest.
“Try To Remember”
from the Broadway Musical
The Fantastics
Try to remember the kind of September
When life was slow and oh so mellow…
Try to remember the kind of September
When grass was green and grain so yellow
Try to remember the kind of September
When you were a young and a callow fellow
Try to remember, and if you remember
Then follow….
Try to remember when life was so tender
That no one wept except the willow
Try to remember when life was so tender
That dreams were kept beside your pillow
Try to remember when life was so tender
That love was an ember about to billow
Try to remember and if you remember
Then follow…
Deep in December it’s nice to remember
Although you know the snow will follow
Deep in December it’s nice to remember
Without a hurt, the heart is hollow
Deep in December it’s nice to remember
The fire of September that made you mellow
Deep in December our hearts should remember
Then follow….
Try to remember the kind of September
When life was slow and oh so mellow
Try to remember the kind of September
When grass was green and grain so yellow
Try to remember the kind of September
When you were a young and a callow fellow
Try to remember and if you remember
Then follow…. follow, follow, follow, follow….
Try to remember, and if you remember
Then follow…
