While I don’t claim to be a gourmet cook by any means, I do enjoy cooking and both collecting and sharing recipes.
I’ve shared a number of recipes here at the Crossroads over the past few months, many of which were linked up with celebrations of the Sabbats. Indeed, a big part of celebrating those holy days in the Pagan Wheel of the Year involves cooking and sharing a variety of delicious dishes which help to define that Sabbat and the season in which it takes place.
I’ve been looking over my statistics, and certainly my recipe posts have gotten as much attention as my Deaf or Pagan posts.
So for all you food connoisseurs out there, I thought I would list the more popular gastronomic posts from the Crossroads. With the following recipes, you can create a full dinner for your family or friends, including soup, salad, main course, side dish, bread, and dessert!

So, Ocean…do you cater? 😉
Last weekend I invited some friends over for dinner, and decided to serve a menu based on several of Ocean’s recipes.
I made the Tomato Bisque soup that she posted here and it was SIMPLY DIVINE! Everyone raved over it – even people who don’t care much for tomato soup loved this one!
We decided to try out that whole grilled chicken recipe, and cooked a couple of birds, using our own two grills (one charcoal and one gas), which was plenty for all of us. My husband basted them with some homemade barbecue sauce (compliments of another of Ocean’s recipes) and it was just delicious.
Along with the bbq chicken we had salad with the salad dressing, squash casserole, corn casserole, beer bread, and rye and indian bread.
For dessert I made a Lazy Women’s Cobbler using blackberries that grow on our farm, and Ice Cream sandwiches, which were especially loved by the children!
In fact, many of the recipes used products that came out of our garden (tomatoes, lettuce, cucumbers, peppers, squash, corn, berries)…and the chickens came from a nearby poultry farm. Everything was so fresh and delicious.
This was just a wonderful way for all of us to get together and enjoy the bounties of the earth, and the bounties of our friendships.
Many thanks to the “Deaf Chef” Ocean for sharing her recipes and making this day possible for all of us. Keep on posting such delicious dishes – a bunch of us here in the Appalachian hills certainly love ’em!
