One nice thing about blogging is all the people you meet. I have a new friend named Robin – who has two blogs of her own – whom I met through this site. She was browsing one day and stumbled upon the Crossroads, and has been a frequent visitor here ever since. She’s a wonderful person…and a skilled photographer, whose pictures embellish her own sites.
I’ve asked her to assist me with possible pictures for a post that I am hoping to put up here in the near future, defining my view of Paganism…since we both share similar spiritual beliefs. But as she was going through her through her collection and sending me some possibilities, I became enthralled not just with the photographs themselves, but also with her explanations for choosing them.
I felt such pictures and words were worthy of a post in themselves, so here they are.
Enjoy.

This photo was taken at the Botanical Gardens in San Francisco. It’s part of the “Australian Garden.” I picked it because of the path, but also because I find it fascinating how we humans can pick up a small piece of another country and plop it down into our own country ~ creating a new path from an old one… creating a new path in our own culture from another culture. I think Paganism is a lot like that. Whether one is practicing Wicca, Celtic Reconstructionism, Asatru/Heathenry, or some other form of Paganism, we’re picking up from old paths to create new ones, lots of times picking those paths from other cultures and bringing them into our own.
This photo is a little darker, more mysterious. I picked it because of the mysteries of any spiritual path ~ those things we don’t understand until we experience them… and then having experienced them, find they’re unexplainable to others ~ because they need to undergo the experience for themselves in order to understand… and so the cycle continues.
Many thanks to Robin for sharing her thoughts and pictures! If you would like to see more of Robin’s photography and prose, visit her two blogs:

Ooh, I really like the one with the big tree and the path, the picture is very beautiful and I love the meaning behind it.
I really enjoy walking through the woods, and if I’m ever in San Fransisco I’ll definitely stop here, because I think I’d love it.. seems so calming from just a picture.
Great Photography!
I’m still blushing and still flattered that you did a post just to feature my photos. 🙂 Thank you.
These pictures are wonderful. Thanks for posting them.
Nice to find some pagan blogs here.
boy i’d like to walk down that path and sit under those trees. great place to meditate
Lovely photos, thank you for sharing them. 🙂
COOL! I really like the first picture, the tree over the pathway. I was really drawn to it, both on the mundane in the form of me wanting to be there, as well as a spiritual resonance. To me, it captures the spiritual journey in some aspects.
How pretty.. makes me wish for the warmer weather we had last week… I love the way the sun shines through the trees.
Gorgeous pictures! I like the first one the best.
Wonderful pictures. I’ve seen a few Robin’s photos before, tag-surfing. They were so visually arresting I had to pop in.
[…] grief, have I actually had my blog that long?) I used a few of her photographs for a post about “Picturing Paganism.” Needless to say, it gathered quite a few comments from people remarking on the beautiful pictures. […]
