While I continue to struggle with my Writer’s Block (I’m working on it! Hopefully I’ll be recovered before too long!), I thought I would take this moment to post a few pictures of my altars.
Being that I have been a practicing Pagan for over twenty years, I have had a chance to accumulate a lot of different items – statuary, tools, pictures, shells, artwork, natural objects, etc. Many of these have made their way onto my altars.
Below are some pictures I’ve taken in the past of some of the altars in my home…yes, as you can see I’ve created several of them, reflecting various aspects of myself and my spiritual path. These altars are located on the second floor enclosed sun porch, which I have renamed The Spirit Room ~
(By the way, I apologize for the poor quality of these pictures…I don’t own a digital camera and these were actually taken using my SideKick II pager. Not the greatest, but better than nothing!)
With the recent winter storm keeping me inside, I decided to putter around the house doing a bit of cleaning, which resulted in my making a few changes both in The Spirit Room, and in my home office (where I spend much of my time on the computer).
One of my big pet peeves is the number of people who can’t seem to get the words right. A-L-T-A-R with two A’s is a noun, describing that sacred place where rituals and spiritual ceremonies might take place. A-L-T-E-R with an E is a verb, meaning to change, modify, or adjust. Remember this, folks…there will be a spelling test tomorrow.
Anyway, I made a couple of changes, modifications, adjustments…or alterations, you might say. I moved a few things into my office to display on my antique cabinet, where I keep many of my spiritual books. Below are some of those changes ~
Remember – an altar should reflect YOU and your own personal relationship with Spirit. I hope you have as much fun putting together your own altars as I have had with mine…
And get as much pleasure, comfort, and inspiration from them as mine have given to me.
Blessings,
~ Ocean
Ocean – Your altars are beautiful! I especially like the one in the fouth and fifth pictures. (I like the statue in the middle.)
This is such a neat idea, ocean. I like the pictures a lot, quality aside. Now I’m designing an altar in my mind… And I was just wondering what I could do to get a little spiritual this weekend. No joke, that actually was what I was wondering earlier this evening. The gray, bleak of winter prompts the need for some sort of outlet.
Thanks to both Sojourner and WhitishRabbit for your kind words! Glad you enjoyed the pictures…quality aside! ๐
Altars can be a lot of fun to create…and they can be a beautiful outlet for expressing your spirituality. In addition, each item you display in your altar makes a statement about YOU – who you are; what you think and feel and believe; and what values and family traditions you wish to emphasize in your life.
And as Rabbit says…they can be a wonderful way to revitalize our faith and hope and belief in the promise of new life to come – especially in the gloom of this bleak winter, as I watch even more snow coming down on top of the Midwestern storm we just had!
Nice to see you alter your altar. ๐
I’ve enjoyed all of your altar pictures you’ve shared over the years…you do have quite a nice collection! And you do a lovely job arranging them (and rearranging them) to express the many aspects of Ocean and her spirituality. ๐
I must admit I’ve had a bit of writer’s block myself lately – perhaps like Rabbit says, “the gray, bleak of winter” takes its toll on our creative energies and we need to find something to do with ourselves to “get a little spiritual”, in turn helping to get those creative juices flowing again. Altering your Altar is a good project for just that…I think I’ll follow your lead and spend some time srpucing up my altars tomorrow after doing my weekly house-cleaning!
I love your altars! They have a wonderful, vibrant energy.
