With this post, Ocean thanks her readership for their birthday wishes, and announces some big changes soon to be coming in her life…
First of all, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of my friends and Crossroads readers for their kind words and birthday wishes. Overall I had a nice 50th birthday – watched the Breeder’s Cup races (I’m a big horse racing fan), spent some time with family and friends, and ate barbecue and cake… washed down with a couple of beverages from the bar.
Now it’s back to business as usual – packing, cleaning, and loading up the car.
Why, you ask? Well, I guess it’s time for my big announcement.
Along with a new decade, I have some other new beginnings in my life as well:
I’m moving to a new state, starting a new job, making new friends, and creating a new life for myself.
Yours truly has been offered and accepted a position as Client Services Specialist for the Deaf Counseling, Advocacy, and Referral Agency in the Bay Area in San Francisco. I will be based in their Fremont Oak Gardens office, working with the Deaf Seniors. My boss will be fellow Deaf b/vlogger LaRonda Zupp, whom you may all know from her blog “Ear of My Heart.”
While I am a little nervous about this big change, I’m excited about it also. The 40’s were not a kind age for me, and I’m glad to leave them behind and start something new with my life. So I’m starting off the 50’s with a grand new adventure, and looking forward to all the possibilities and all the possible Oceans.
I’m looking forward to the chance to meet in person some of my fellow Californians or West Coasters whom I have gotten to know over the internet – Deaf folks, Pagan folks, and just plain nice folks. I’m also hoping to meet up again with people I have met and known over the years, who live out on the West Coast or nearabouts.
Although I have been out to California before (Yosemite area), I have never spent any time in San Francisco so I know very little about the area other than what I have been learning from research and talking to others. The thought that I am now actually going to be living and working in one of the most beautiful and exciting areas in the world is a bit overwhelming! I welcome any advise, tips, suggestions, recommendations, etc.
This is my last week here in Indiana, and then on November 1st (if all goes according to schedule) I will be pulling out of the driveway, turning onto the highway, and heading west. I plan to arrive in the Bay Area around November 5th, move into my new apartment on November 7th, and start my new job on November 10th.
So for the next month or so, things are going to be a bit hectic as I get moved out of one place and settled into another. I’m probably not going to have a lot of time for blogging or keeping in touch with people. Know that it’s nothing personal… I’m just really busy at the moment!
California, here I come!

This sculpture shows the sign for "connect"...and that is what Deaf Pagan Crossroads is all about - making connections. Connections between Deafhood and Paganism, connections between the Deaf Community and the Hearing Community, connections between myself as the writer and you as the reader. I hope you will take the time to read my various posts, some of which are listed below. Welcome to the Crossroads, and I hope you make some connections here!
Hooray for you and hooray for us! How lucky we are to have your spirit, energy and talents in our neck of the woods!
Here’s to new beginnings!

My dear Ocean,
Happy 50th birthday and congratulations on your new position!!!!! I turned 50 a little over a year ago, and I found it was in some ways a turning point for me as well (although I didn’t do anything as big as change jobs or pick up and move halfway across the US!). I shall keep you in my thoughts as I do my daily devotions, and I look forward to reading all about your new beginnings as they continue to unfold. Take care and keep us all posted!
Blessings,
Sabrina
