To "a deafie" ~

I'm sorry, but I am confused by some of the statements you make here. I would suggest that before posting comments, that you make sure to get your facts straight.

First of all, Jeff Daniels does not live in Minnesota - he was raised in Michigan and even went to college there, and then moved back to his childhood hometown to live there with his family when he's not busy working as an actor. If you would read the article or watch the video as I recommended in my post, you will see where it clearly says he lives in Michigan.

Secondly, Jeff Daniels was never on the Full House television program. That was Dave Coulier. Yes, Jeff and Dave look a bit alike, but don't confuse the two. Jeff is primarily a dramatic actor, not a comedian, although he has done some comedy work over the years. But Jeff Daniels wouldn't be thought of as a "funny guy"... even though he is well known for some of his funnier scenes in movies.

As for his agent fibbing about his knowing ASL... he may have learned a little at one time or the other, who knows? People have been known to tell "little white lies" in order to get jobs, so this might have just been another example of such. But since neither the article I have mentioned nor Jeff himself in the video says anything about such, I suspect it's probably just a rumor.

Again, while I encourage people to leave comments, I also would appreciate it if you make sure the information you share in such comments is accurate... otherwise you just end up spreading false information and making a fool out of yourself in the process.

I read in a recent article that jeff said that his agent fibbed about jeff knowing some asl when they were signing up for this movie. It didn't say why his agent would do such a thing about this. Anyway.
after jeff learned of his acceptance, he spent a lot of time learning asl at his home, he lives in minnesota with his family to prepare for this role.

I agree that jeff has considerably aged so much that I didn't really recognize him from full house tv program that he used to be on a couple of years ago.

I believe that maybe jeff got tired of comedy acts and didn't want to get stuck as a funny guy and wanted to use his skills as a serious actor. I guess he didn't want to fall in a trap that many actors like dick van dyke, bob denver, robert reed and many others.

"That said, the truth is hearing people have a hard time coordinating all that hand and arm movement. Deaf people are incredibly coordinated, because they’ve developed their fine-motors skills over a lifetime. Learning ASL is particularly hard for middle-aged hearing men with fat muscular fingers. Women tend to have better fine-motor coordination than men."

I know so many hearing who don't at all have a hard time coordinating all that hand and arm movement. There are so many hearing who are so fluent in ASL far more than some deaf people. Not all Deaf are incredibly coordinated, because they've developed their fine-motor skills over a lifetime. I do know some deaf who are downright clumsy. Learning ASL is particularly hard for middle-aged hearing men with fat muscular fingers and I agree with that only if they're not cerebrally inclined (mind over matter).

You might want to back your statement that women tend to have better fine-motor coordination than men.

But do consider yourself welcome!

I'm in full agreement with you about how we should cut him a lot of slack. He did *incredibly* well for someone who had a very brief time to practice, and he was believable as a hearing signer who doesn't sign that much. Yes, a hearing husband would have signed better, but given the time constraints he had, I think he did very, very well. Kudos to Jeff Daniels!
