Hi ya, I realize this post is old but I am desperately trying to find out how to caption videos for internet without too much time and energy. I was thrilled to find your post. However, Jared seems to have moved as your links to http://jarednevans.typepad.com/blog gets me a "server not found" message. I was just wondering if you can in the correct direction if he has a new blog somewhere with the how-to information?

HA! Not only can Ocean sit at her favorite bar a whole time zone away from me and chat with me at the same time - she also can use that nifty little SideKick to send me pictures of margaritias and toasted ravioli - making me feel like I'm actually joining her for dinner and a drink! :-)

Captioning of Spoken English videos can also be of benefit to the hearing. My example being: try being a hearing person watching TV or a movie with my Mom, or my boyfriend's mother - who are both getting on in years and becoming hard of hearing - the extremely HIGH volume they would have the TV set to so they can hear it blasts the rest of the family right out of the house. So, when watching TV with them, we turn on the captioning so that they can still catch what's going on by reading what parts they can't hear, and the rest of us can enjoy the show at a more normal volume level.

Also, I will often turn on the captioning and turn down the volume if I'm up late watching TV and the rest of the household has gone to bed - that way I don't disturb anyone's sleep, because quite honestly I have to have the volume up a tad louder to hear the TV myself these days.

I'm a long way away from making my own videos, but should I ever catch up to the level of technology that a lot of people are using now, it's good to know there is information available on how to caption those videos for my Deaf and Hard of Hearing friends/family. Thanks!
